Baby darters have left the nest!

Last week, I was at Princes Bridge. I was monitoring the nests when I noticed something. There were only two birds in there! The third wasn’t even nearby – it was on a completely different branch! I even saw it swimming in the water.

On this day, the other two birds were moving to the edge of the nest but not exactly leaving it. It was beautiful getting photos of their wings. I don’t thing the markings will ever look like this again, even on a female.

The above photo shows a different set of chicks who are getting ready to fledge. I see the parents feeding them quite a lot, but it is always obscured by the foliage. I don’t care though because there is a turtle!
