I finally got to return to Balyang to check out how it had changed in the past 5-6 weeks. We’d had another large downpour of rain and it had flooded again, although not to the same level as before. I hadn’t been well enough to visit my parents during those weeks as I was changing to new meds.
Our first visit was to the boardwalk to look for skinks. Alas, there wasn’t any. It was considerably less muddy. I do plan to research the ecology of floods and how the vegetation changes
This is a Common Spotted Ladybird, or Harmonia conformis. Keen to add new ladybird species to my list but alas, that involves leaving suburbia.
This is a generic leopard slug, which looked different to all of the other leopard slugs I’ve seen!
We checked to see if there was any water or animals in the channel. There wasn’t, but these two guys were seeing what we were up to. We left very quickly so as not to disturb them.
There is a lot of vegetation, and also insects. Interesting to see what birdlife makes it home here over the summer 🙂
