Bats in black and white

Trent Parke took a brilliant bat photo as part of his Minutes to Midnight collection. I immediate fell in love with it and decided experiment with black and white photography.

Obviously, I can’t ever replicate it exactly. He has a unique way of developing his photos. On top of that, I don’t know how to begin with high key/high contrast photography.

Recently I went Eastern Park to experiment with photographing the bats. I had two main goals: high contrast close ups on specific behaviour, and blurry black and whites of bats in flight. These were taken during the day, over 2 30-minute periods, so they are pretty mediocre. I think they are a solid start though and something I’m very keen to experiment with.
