It was the final day in Apollo Bay. I had tried to go to Paradise Picnic Ground the day earlier but had no luck with both Uber and the local taxis. My dad dropped Seth and I off for a 90 minute wander on our final day and we made good use of the time.
We made good use of the time by having a proper look for fungi. Last time we rushed it and only did a quick loop. This time we took our time, even if someone was a bit hyperactive. That hyperactivity served us well, with Seth finding most of the new specimens.
It was brilliant to see so much diversity in fungi. I will warn you, you have to go into the really damp areas where leeches hang out. I’ve never seen leeches here before and believed that I was immune to them as I’d never been properly bitten.
Not until my leg started stinging. I pulled it off immediately (it was a little one)… and then showed Sethy. It stung for a good hour but hopefully was one of those ‘teaching experiences.’ Bugger teaching!
I’m sad that I missed out on most of the fungi season this year but hopefully will be able to see more over the next year.
