Yesterday, I shared photos of the fungi I found while spending over an hour exploring Paradise Picnic Ground. We had very good luck and it makes me want to explore the Otways more during peak fungi season.
It wasn’t just the fungi that made it stand out. This time I got to pay more attention to the lichen. It’s annoyingly fascinating, but I’m trying not to put too much pressure on myself when it comes to identifying everything.
Invertebrates
We got to spend some time looking around to interesting invertebrates. We didn’t have much luck this time; most of what we found was pretty generic.
This leech wasn’t generic. The colouring was but it is the first time one has properly bitten me. I felt a sharp sting on my leg and pulled up my pants to see the little bugger latched on. I flicked it off, but it had already properly attached itself so it stung and bled for a while. I then showed Sethy so we could ‘learn’ not to be afraid of them.
This guy would have crawled up my tracksuit pants about 10cm. It makes me irrationally uncomfortable since one attached itself to my inner thigh at a toilet at Kennett River.
I don’t know what the above is, nor whether it is plant or animal related. It’s icky looking.
Plants
Below are the cliched scenery shots. It isn’t something I’m skilled at and the Samsung S8, which I prefer for landscape styled photos, strugged with it.
