It was our second last day in Apollo Bay, so we decided to visit Maits Rest. Our main goal for the trip was to look for signs of mammals and skinks, but we also wanted to suss out the fungi situation.
Seth – aka Hawkeye – did get a good view of one skink. I only had my phone camera with me so wasn’t able to get a good photo.
I recently discovered that the iphone can take awesome photos when using the portrait mode. Naturally, this works best on humans (and cats.) I still wanted to see what it could do with nearby tree branches. The results were interesting. I’d need to spend longer here to fully test it though.
The highlight of the Maits Rest walk was finding the many different species of fungi. These were all found next to the track. The variety was phenomenal and we were able to take our time to look at it due to the lack of visitors.
We are definitely planning to return again.
