I’ve written before about my love of bugs at Balyang. It was that experience that convinced me to buy the macro lens and start this separate blog just for my nature posts!
Today, I went down there with Sethy. I couldn’t photography things exactly how I wanted to because he wanted to see everything and would tap the plastic to see if things would move. It’s worth it though, as he finds *everything*
Spiders
A lot of very large spiders hide under the plastic, which can make for awesome photos. One of the problems I’ve found is glare which can massively reduce the amount of detail you get.
Other species of spiders like to hang out on, or near, the plastic but they tend to move around much more quickly. It’s hard to get detailed shots.
Caterpillars
The caterpillars around Balyang at the moment are super hairy, which make for awesome photos. I love the below photo. I tried to get a side view photo of it, instead of shooting from above. It worked out very well considering the fading light.
The remaining photos aren’t that great. I was limited in time and lighting. (We got distracted by possums.)
Other:
These two were surprisingly detailed. Especially the eyes. Again, I don’t know how but I will definitely take credit for it.
