Parents encouraging cormorants to climb out of the nest

December 5, 2015 by Jade Craven Leave a Comment

I love cormorants. I love the breeding season. Love love love.

Earlier this week, I was at Balyang. I was watching some of the birds being fed and noticed something different.

Some of the adults were standing a little bit away from the nest and encouraging the chicks to jump up onto a high branch in order to get fed. I only saw it a couple of times – but am definitely hoping to see it again!

I wonder if other species do this?
