Scallop and Sponge At Point Henry

January 23, 2023 by Jade Craven

I did found something interesting at Point Henry recently. I was really excited to find this shell attached to a sea sponge. The markings on the sponge where interesting and it made me wonder if there was some kind of symbiotic relationship going on,

Turns out that it is just a generic scallop (Mimachlamys asperrima). They are meant to be a lot of fun to photograph. Live ones have blue eyes around the shell and have sponges on them.

Will definitely be keeping an eye out when I start snorkelling!
