Signs of life at the Bush block

January 6, 2016 by Jade Craven Leave a Comment

It was pretty shocking to see the damage at the bushblock on my last visit. It was fascinating, in a warped way. There was very little vegetation left, except on a bordering property. Even then, that property was farmland. I wouldn’t have thought there would be nothing.

There was a decent number of birds. Many of the below birds were found on the perimeter of the property, especially on the border with the land that still has some life. It was interesting to find life closer to the dam. The
thornbills and robins were here, along with tree creepers.

The dam had yabbies. My parents have gone back there twice more and found yabbies on each visit. There is a lot of insect life, especially butterflies. We think that this is what is supporting the current bird populations.

Ironically, I’ve visited again since these photos were taken. On that visit, there was very few birds except for on that particular fence line. I have no idea what the difference is. I’ll be sharing those photos later.
