Common Koel!

January 3, 2014 by Jade Craven Leave a Comment

Lately, I’ve been hearing a strange bird call that I’ve never heard before. It’s hard to describe but it is very noticeable. I’ve run outside so many times to try and get a picture. Last week, all I could see was a black shadow.

Last night, the day after returning from Apollo Bay, I snapped this.

Common Koel

The picture didn’t help much. It could be anything! Maybe a cuckoo? I had a hunch that it was a koel. I don’t know why I thought of that. Probably because so many have appeared on Birdline lately.

I went on youtube to see if the call was familiar.

Oh yeah. I then checked out Birds in Backyards to see if the visuals matched. They did!

It was a lovely way to accidentally add another bird to my life list.
