This trip took place on the 25th of October.
I was walking to Balyang Sanctuary on the weekend, just before a storm was due to hit. I was just going to do a quick check of the nests and see what birds were visiting.
I was walking across the bridge when I saw a couple there. The male was photographing something. He pointed over and said “there are baby birds.”
I was so excited. I’d been watching the mother for a while and never expected to actually see the young.
I had seen baby darters here before but they were considerably older. These guys were so young. The definitely weren’t there when I visited the week before. The eyes weren’t even open.
Keep in mind that these birds are nesting close to a very, very busy bridge. It is a popular nesting location with a lot of traffic – both from cars and pedestrians. These birds showed no sign of distress.
I’ve since visited them a couple of times and haven’t been lucky enough to photos like this of them eating. It was a very beautiful day.
