Last week, we went to the property. I had last visited almost 6 months prior and the changes were so profound. I know it had been a warm summer but it is looking less and less like the bush block I remember.
The whole area seemed to be full of dead grass, which is a stark contrast to what it was like the previous October. It felt like the grass had taken over from the wildflowers that were starting to show up last year.
There were some signs of other plants, although very few flowering. That could just be the time of year. Some trees were flowering which was a good sign. I heard magpies but there was otherwise no sign of birdlife.
We only got to spend an hour there so this is by no means a comprehensive update: it was 30 degrees. I’ll try to get up there more often in winter to document the fungi… if it returns.
