Waterbugs at serendip

May 15, 2016 by Jade Craven Leave a Comment

Last weekend, Sethy and I went to Serendip. I thought it may be an interesting place to look for bugs… until someone discovered the ponding site.

Serendip is awesome and is used by a lot of schools for nature education. They also have really interesting activities on the school holidays. One of the school holiday activities they run is about identifying waterbugs. I’d been wanting to do this for sometime but hadn’t got around to it. So, while I was watching a flock of 30 or so choughs, Sethy was having a blast.

I think we got a mixture of water boatmen and backswimmers. I don’t even know HOW to try to ID them from these photos. We also found two fish.

Keen to return here and see what more we can learn… when I’m not distracted by birds.
