The Cliffs Of Castle Cove

October 3, 2020 by Jade Craven

59-105

We were visiting Castle Cove to look for very specific patterns in the cliffs. We were able to find them quickly. I wasn’t expecting just how beautiful the rest of the cliffs were, even if they didn’t share that same pattern. You can see the history of the area in the different rock types and colours.

These photos don’t do the area justice, due to the bright light. I would love to return here at another time and even with a drone to get different pictures.

Beautiful Patterns In Cliffs At Castle Cove

October 2, 2020 by Jade Craven

The main reason we went to Castle Cove was to look for these patterns in the cliffs. Based on the pictures in Written In Stone, I assumed that the whole cliff would have that pattern, like Urquhart Bluff. In reality, a small section of the cliffs were like this – and you could only see them on the right section of the cliffs.

When you get to the beach, turn to your right. There are a section of cliffs that are different in colour to the other ones. I’m not sure what they look like in decent lighting, however the sun was too bright for us to fully enjoy how beautiful they were.

These patterns are often found at the bottom of the cliffs, in sections that are about 50cm wide. Some are higher or larger.

It is well worth exploring in depth. I recommend getting there when the tide is at its lowest and that you constantly keep an eye on it. In this particular section, you could get blocked off quickly.

Visiting Castle Cove Beach

October 1, 2020 by Jade Craven

Mum and I had read about beautiful rock formations of Castle Cove in Written In Stone. This brilliant and inspiring book about the geological history of the Great Ocean Road contains many pictures of the different landscapes.

Mum fell in love with the pictures from Castle Cove and we decided to visit. The main problem was that we struggled to find any information to get to the main beach. We asked at the Information Centre and the lady mentioned the lookout and that it was part of the Great Ocean Walk. I did find some scattered information about the beach online but not much.

You can access the beach from the lookout. However, it isn’t well signposted and it is quite steep.

How Is Covid-19 Impacting Apollo Bay? Spring 2020

September 30, 2020 by Jade Craven

The restrictions had only just been lifted prior to this trip. We were extra cautious. Most business owners were pretty positive and you could see the local community rallying. The lack of tourism – especially from Melbourne and overseas – is definitely having an impact.
